The 7th Annual e-Learning Open House took place on January 28, 2010, in the Golden Jubilee Room at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. This much talked about event saw a record number of attendees: 255 visitors came out to see 25 presentations. With colleagues sharing their experiences, exchanging ideas, and finding out what e-learning projects are happening on campus, Open House has clearly become a popular annual event for the UBC e-learning community.
Congratulations to our door prize winners: Mary Russell from the School of Social Work and Tamara Tasaka from BCNET. Each walked away with an 8GB iPod Touch from Apple Canada and the UBC Bookstore.
Thanks to all the presenters and attendees for another wonderful event. Hosted by e-Strategy and the Office of Learning Technology, this year’s event celebrated the 60th anniversary of Distance Learning at UBC and showcased the work of learning technology support units from across campus. Attendees learned more about UBC’s Academic Continuity Toolkit, walked through the Sauder School of Business’ Virtual Welcome Session for first year students, and found out how the School of Social Work, Faculty of Land and Food Systems, and Office of Learning Technology were incorporating video components and problem-based learning resources and multimedia into their online distance education courses. These were just a few of the presentations, and a full list of all 25 can be found here.
Photos from the event can be seen below, and a video from the event will be posted shortly. The best presentation at Open House 2010, as voted on by the attendees, will be announced on February 8, 2010 on the Open House website.
