Learning online is quite different from the correspondence model of "independent study" . You will be using a computer and the internet to connect with your virtual classroom on a regular basis, logging on to your course website on a regular basis with fellow learners and your instructor, participating in asynchronous on-line discussion, and perhaps working in collaboration with others on group assignments or problem sets.

The following questions will help you to determine whether or not online learning is right for you at this time.

1. Do you have (or are you willing to obtain) access to a computer and a reliable internet service?

2. Do you feel that you can learn effectively without face to face interaction with others?

3. Can you dedicate 4 to 6 hours per week (any time during the day or night) to participate in the learning process?

4. Are you a self-motivated and self-disciplined person?

5. When it comes to coursework and deadlines, do you usually meet them?

6. Are you comfortable communicating in written English (the language of instruction in most courses)?

7. Do you enjoy reading?

8. Are class discussions helpful to you?

9. Do you value the introduction of critical thinking into the learning process?

10. Do you think the learning process is enhanced when you share your work, life and educational experiences as part of the learning process?

11. Are you comfortable with email, computers and new technologies?

12. Does your lifestyle (family, work or personal schedule) make it difficult for you to attend classes at a specific location?
